Applying for bail is complex process. The outcome means the difference between personal freedom or remaining in custody until hearing.

The process of applying for bail starts as soon as you are remanded. You are unlikely to be granted bail without the assistance of an experienced criminal lawyer.

TRAFFIC OFFENCES
Driving under the influence, speeding, driving whilst disqualified, dangerous driving
Often the first experience many have in the court system will be related to an offence under the Road Safety Act or Regulations. If you have been charged with a traffic offence, you will be required to attend court. Traffic offences include excessive speed, dangerous driving, registration and licencing offences. Your vehicle can be impounded at the time you are found committing the relevant offence.

FAMILY VIOLENCE
Intervention orders, physical or mental harm, financial abuse, physical violence.
Any behaviour that’s violent, threatening, or controlling can be considered family and domestic violence.
Family violence includes behaviour that causes a family member fear for their safety, the safety of a family member or pet.
PROPERTY OFFENCES
Burglary, theft, shopsteal, criminal damage
Property offences can include damaging property belonging to another person, shoplifting and more serious offences such as burglary, robbery and theft of motor vehicles.

Murder, manslaughter, culpable driving
Homicide includes voluntary acts that cause the death of another person, with the intention to kill or seriously injure that person or knowing it was probable the death or serious injury would result.

SEX OFFENCES
Sexual Assault, Rape, Indecent Acts
If you are charged and found guilty of a registerable offence, you will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register in Victoria.
This mandates a number of enforceable requirements from the offender, including reporting of details such as address, email, affiliations and travel and regular reporting to police.
FRAUD
Centrelink Fraud, Making False Statements, Submitting false documents, False Accounting
Fraud charges can include obtaining property/financial advantage by deception, falsification of documents and false accounting.
People who commit fraud attempt to gain benefits for themselves by being dishonest.

Appealing your criminal conviction
